Trinity Health Scholarship Program Opens Opportunities
for University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff Nursing Students
Trinity Health offering six full scholarships to nursing students of diverse backgrounds
Trinity Health is pleased to announce the creation of scholarships for students of diverse backgrounds pursuing a degree in nursing from the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. In addition to receiving a fully funded quality education at UAPB’s nursing program, these scholarship winners will have their first choice of jobs from among 44 Trinity Health hospitals after graduation.
Trinity Health is one of the largest Catholic health systems in the nation with acute-care hospitals serving diverse communities in Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, California Maryland and Idaho. The health system employs more than 44,500 associates and has more than 8,000 active physicians.
“Trinity Health is dedicated to building a talented and diverse workforce in health care and assisting in the development of future health care leaders,” said VeLois Bowers, senior vice president, diversity and inclusion, Trinity Health and UAPB alumni. “We're excited to strengthen our relationship with the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in opening up exciting opportunities for students to pursue promising and fulfilling careers in health care. This scholarship program creates amazing opportunities for the recipients to further their education and training in nursing.”
UAPB was one of only three universities to each receive a $2 million low-interest loan from Trinity Health. The colleges will invest the loan proceeds in securities that will generate returns that will, in turn, be used to award multiple scholarships of up to $80,000 a year. In addition to UAPB, the other two schools to receive the endowments were the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn., and Mount Carmel College of Nursing, in Columbus, Ohio.
The scholarships are made possible by Trinity Health’s socially responsible investment program, which is based on the premise that investment decisions are made based on economic, environmental and social reasons. As part of the program’s community investment focus, Trinity Health is committed to investing in the education of nursing students.
“Diversity is a cornerstone of our organization’s values, and increasing the number of nurses of color supports Trinity Health's focus on reflecting the diversity of the communities we serve,” said VeLois Bowers, Senior Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion, Trinity Health.
“With an education from a nursing program as strong as the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, these candidates will stand out and create for themselves outstanding opportunities for advancement in their careers.”
