Paul G. Neumann to Join Trinity Health as General Counsel

NOVI, Mich. (Sept. 30, 2009) – Trinity Health, one of the nation’s top 10 health systems for clinical quality and patient safety, today announced that Paul G. Neumann, formerly the General Counsel of Catholic Health Initiatives, will join Trinity Health as its General Counsel and Senior Vice President.

“Paul is an excellent addition to our team and will fit right into Trinity Health’s mission-focused culture,” said Joseph R. Swedish, Trinity Health’s President and CEO. “Paul is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in policy development, health care and hospital law, advocacy, operations, mission work and Canon Law.”

With Neumann’s arrival on Nov. 2, Daniel Hale, who has served as Trinity Health’s legal counsel for the past 13 years, will transition fully to Executive Vice President of Trinity Health’s Institute for Health and Community Benefit focusing on innovative community programs and chronic health issues.


Neumann brings to Trinity Health impressive credentials including 12 years as General Counsel and Senior Vice President for Legal Services for Catholic Health Initiatives in Denver, Colo. Prior to joining CHI as its initial general counsel, Neumann was a partner in the San Francisco office of the law firm of Weissburg and Aronson, which specialized in health care and hospital law. He also was a partner in the law firm of Foley and Lardner, which merged with Weissburg and Aronson in 1996. Paul practiced in all areas of health, business and corporate law. He represented hospitals and health systems in business transactions; long-range planning; policy development; analysis of legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments; joint venture planning and implementation; mergers and acquisitions; risk management; and patient care issues.

He has served on hospital and medical staff committees, including Institutional Review Boards and bioethics committees of numerous northern California hospitals.

Neumann graduated from the University of Virginia Law School and was admitted to practice law in California in 1987. He received the Taylor-Taswell Scholarship to attend law school and was awarded the Dillard Teaching Fellowship after his first year. He received a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College in 1981.
