Pediatric Primary Care

Welcome to your child's medical home

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that focuses on the health and medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatric care encompasses a wide range of health services ranging from preventive health care to the diagnosis and treatment of acute or chronic diseases. Pediatricians monitor physical, emotional, and social development, ensuring that children grow, healthy, through regular check-ups, immunizations, and guidance on nutrition and safety. This specialty emphasizes early detection and management of diseases to promote lifelong well-being, supporting families to provide the best care for their children.

Well Child Visits

A well child visit is a routine checkup for children from infancy through adolescence, focusing on preventive care and developmental milestones. These visits are important because they give your pediatric provider the opportunity to  monitor your child's growth, development, and overall health. They can detect a potential health concern early and treat issues early on. These visits aren’t just for children – they also offer an opportunity for parents to voice concerns, ask advice, get referrals and reassurance around their child’s health and development.

What happens during a well-child visit?

After your child's first year, well-child visits with your pediatric provider will occur once every year. They offer the opportunity to raise concerns about their child's growth and development, review milestones, receive immunizations to prevent illness, and develop a relationship with your trusted provider. Here's what else you can expect during your next well-child visit:

  • Physical Exam
  • Developmental Assessment
  • Screening Tests
  • Vaccinations
  • Parental Guidance

Pediatric Hospital Medicine

Hospital medicine refers to the medical care you receive while in the hospital. A pediatric hospitalist is a physician who has been trained in pediatrics and has advanced expertise in caring for the complex needs of a pediatric hospitalized patient. Children and adolescents who are hospitalized usually have more acute (or urgent) healthcare needs, requiring more management than other, non-hospitalized patients.

Hospitalists oversee your medical care, working closely with other patient care staff and physicians. They also connect with your primary care physician to coordinate and manage medications, treatments, and other medical needs while hospitalized. Trinity Health IHA Medical Group Pediatric Hospital Medicine hospitalists care for children and adolescents at Trinity Health Michigan Hospitals with conditions including:

  • Respiratory illnesses, such as pneumonia or influenza
  • Infectious diseases
  • Recovery from injury or surgery
  • Problems with ongoing issues such as asthma or diabetes
